What is Twitter #music?

Twitter #music is a service that changes the way people find music, based entirely on Twitter. It uses Twitter activity, including Tweets and engagement, to detect and surface the most popular tracks and emerging artists. It also brings artists’ music-related Twitter activity front and center; go to a user’s profile to see which musical artists they follow and listen to songs by those artists.

How do I get started?

First, you need to download Twitter #music from the App Store or use the web version: music.twitter.com. Since Twitter #music is integrated with the Twitter product, all you need to do to use it is sign in with your Twitter account credentials. Don’t have an account? Sign up for one here!

Once you're signed in, you can check out the genre charts or follow artists from the Suggested or #NowPlaying charts.  You can also allow the app to scan your iPhone's music library to suggest more relevant artists to you.

What countries is Twitter #music available in?

Twitter #music is currently localized and available in US, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish.  We apologize if the app is currently not available in your location, but we are working hard to expand the product to other major markets.

What is the device requirement to use Twitter #music?

This app is currently available on iOS and will require iOS version 6.0 and above. We plan to expand the product offering to other platforms in upcoming releases.

How do I tweet about a song?

  1. Play a track.
  2. Tap on the spinning player to bring up the maximize player.
  3. Tap on the compose Tweet icon located on the top-right of the player.
  4. Enter the desired text of your Tweet.
  5. Tap Tweet to finish and post the Tweet to your Twitter profile.
Note: For every song you tweet, there will be hard-coded text included that you won’t be able to edit or remove.

How do I view Twitter #music on the web?

You can log into Twitter #music on the web by visiting music.twitter.com and entering your Twitter account credentials.

How do I search for artists on Twitter #music?

You can search for an artist by tapping on the magnifying glass at the top-right of the app and entering the artist’s name. If you are not logged in, you will only see search results for musical artists. If you are logged in, your search result will include Twitter users as well.

Why can’t I find a particular artist on Twitter #music?

In order for artists to show up in search, they need to have a public Twitter account and recent playable tracks on iTunes.

What are the different available charts?

Twitter #music charts list out many different curations of music.  You will be able to view charts of different genres, popular talent, as well as emerging new artists!  All charts contain 140 artists who are currently trending in that particular category.

What is the “Suggested” category?

Based on artists you are following, the Suggested chart is a curation of artists you might be interested in but don’t already follow.

What is the #NowPlaying” category?

The #NowPlaying chart is composed of songs that the people you follow, or those who follow you, have tweeted. This chart is curated to let you know what songs are currently being played and help you discover new music through those you follow.

How can I listen to the full track?

Twitter #music will present you with 30-second iTunes previews.

  • To listen to full tracks on music.twitter.com, you can log in with any subscription on Rdio or an unlimited or premium subscription on Spotify.
  • To listen to full tracks on the Twitter #music mobile app, you can log in with an unlimited Rdio subscription or a premium subscription on Spotify.

What determines which track is played for an artist?

Twitter #music plays an artist's most tweeted about new song.

How do I log out?

Similar to the Twitter mobile app, you can log out of Twitter #music in your iOS Settings.

Note: Logging out in your iOS settings will also log you out of the Twitter mobile app as well.
