TweetDeck Columns

Using TweetDeck columns

Instead of a single timeline, TweetDeck allows you to create columns to display specific content that interests you. You can create a column that shows all your mentions, the results of a search query, a list of favorites, the latest Tweets from a hashtag or trend, etc.

To add a column:

  1. Click Add Column in the top navigation bar, which will open a menu that allows selection of several column types.
  2. Select the type of column you would like to add.
  3. Select the account that will populate the column; you will see the option to select an account that you have already authorized, or use the search box to search for another user’s account.
Note: You can also create columns with accounts that are not authorized to your TweetDeck account. Just search for the @username in the search box.

To remove a column:

  1. Hover your mouse over the header of the column and the Edit button will appear.
  2. Click Delete.

To turn column notification sounds on or off:

  1. Hover your mouse over the header of the column you wish to turn sound notifications on or off for.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Check the box next to Notification sounds to turn notification sounds on; uncheck the box to turn them off.
  4. Once your settings are in place, click the settings icon again to close out the menu.

Column reordering

Easily rearrange the order of columns in TweetDeck with just a few quick clicks.

  1. Click Edit on the column you wish to rearrange; a drop-down menu will appear.
  2. Click the left or right arrow depending on which direction you’d like to move the column.
Note: By clicking on "Columns" in the top navigation, you can view all of your active columns. Click on one of the columns to quickly jump to it. You can also navigate to the left or the right by using the arrows.

Column filters

You can easily edit the type of Tweets you would like displayed in each of your columns. You can select from contentusers, or alerts, or a combination of the three. Content filtering allows you to filter the column by a certain type of Tweet, such as Retweets, Tweets containing a specific word or phrase, or Tweets with photos. The user filter allows you to filter Tweets within a certain column written by a certain author and those they mention. The alert filter allows you to enable pop-ups or sounds for a certain column.

  1. Hover your mouse over the header of the column until “Edit” appears.
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Select which types of filters (content, users, or alerts) you would like applied to the column.
  4. Click Close at the top of the column, and you’re all set.
Note: Columns that are currently custom filtering will display FILTERS ACTIVE below the title of the column.
